AZO Incorporated was formed as a partnership in 1978 between the
Moore family in Memphis, Tennessee and the Zimmermann family
in Osterburken, Germany. This partnership was formed to be closer
to our North American customers. As the first of the AZO Partner
companies, AZO Inc. set the standard for further AZO global expansion.
AZO is an acronym for the founder's name, Adolf Zimmermann,
and the town of Osterburken, Germany. In 1949, Mr. Zimmermann invented
and began to produce the AZO "Cyclone Screener," a horizontal,
centrifugal machine for sifting flour. As the years progressed,
AZO moved into material, or ingredient, handling systems including
pneumatic conveying and automated weigh batching systems. Today,
AZO is the world’s largest provider of ingredient automation
and management systems. Globally, AZO boasts annual sales of approximately
$150 million with over 700 employees. The primary markets served
are the food, pharmaceutical, plastics and chemical industries.
